Banner day for RSC Women's Track Squad at Empire 8 Indoor Championship

Rochester, NY — Russell Sage College women's indoor track and field program competed in their first Empire 8 Indoor Championship on Friday at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth College. The meet team crown went to     St. John Fisher College as they just edged Nazareth in the team scoring, 160-158. Sage added 23 points and finished in sixth place.

Sage's distance medley relay finished in second place with an impressive time of 13:59.16 behind the efforts of rookies Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central) and Sarah Masse (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), sophomore Molly Kane (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia), and rookie Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties).

In the mile run, Feeney added a fourth place finish with her time of 5:44.15. Kane took home ninth place in 6:00.45, while sophomore Evelyn Gile (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up 14th in 6:21.42.

Sophomore Shakura Murray (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) was the runner-up in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 28.15. Rookie Caileigh Miron (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) was ninth in 29.76, while freshmen Jasmine Zollman (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) was next in 10th with a time of 30.06 and Victoria Johnson (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added a time of 30.49 to pick up 13th place. Masse was next for the Gators in 31.89 to take 16th place.

In the 400 meter dash, rookie Skylar Grybos (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) was 8th in 1:05.74.  In the 800 meter run, junior Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was the first Gator finisher in 14th place with a time of 2:56.30. Senior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) was next in 3:00.70 to take 15th, while junior Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) added a time of 3:24.22 to take home 17th place.

In the 60 meter hurdles, rookie Giuliana Capparello (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) recorded a time of 10.83 and finished in seventh place. In the long jump, Zollman and Johnson picked up 12th and 14th place, respectively. Zollman had a performance of 4.21 meters, while Johnson had a leap of 4.11 meters.

In the shot put, newcomer Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) was ninth with a mark of 9.89 meters. Murray added a sixth place finish in the triple jump with her mark of 9.96 meters. Carius picked up ninth with a leap 9.43, while Johnson was right behind her in 10th with a performance of 9.25 meters.

Cronin added to her impressive day as she finished in sixth place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:22.86. Feeney was 12th in the race in 12:37.13.

The Gators added a sixth place finish in the 4 x 400 relay with their time of 4:58.45 behind the efforts of Grybos, McAlonen, Keravich, and rookie Giuliana Capparello (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville).

In the weight throw, Carius took home seventh with a toss of 11.36 meters, while rookie Fiona Mulligan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) was 17th with her mark of 8.03 meters.

The Gators wrapped up their first indoor track and field campaign at the Empire 8 Women's Championship. On Saturday, March 20, the Gator men will compete at the Empire 8 Men's Indoor Championship at Nazareth College.
