Gators sweep Keuka to win 7th straight  and improve to 11-1

Clifton Park, NY–Russell Sage College's softball team hosted the Wolves of Keuka College on Friday afternoon in an Empire 8 doubleheader. RSC posted a 5-4 win in the first game and then beat Keuka 10-2 in five innings in the nightcap. The Gators are now 11-1 overall and in the Empire 8. Keuka drops to 3-11 overall and in the league. RSC has now seven in a row. Friday's doubleheader also marked the first time the Gators did not have an extra-inning game in a league doubleheader this spring.

Game #1   Sage 5-4 Keuka

In a see saw battle, Keuka held 4-0 lead through two innings. The Gators tacked on their first runs in the bottom of the third inning along with a single run in the bottom of the fourth and the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning, junior pitcher Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) had a lead-off double to left center field. Senior Emily Agate (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) flew out to right field before sophomore Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) doubled down the left line to drive in Dicranian and give the Gators the come from behind victory.

Dicranian, who also collected the complete game win for RSC was 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. She worked 7 innings with four earned runs off 11 hits and struck out 4 to improve to 8-1. Lindsey, who was also 2/3 had the game-winning RBI.

Rookie Ally Murphy (Gill, MA/Turners Falls) had a clutch pinch hit that drove in two runs in the bottom of the third inning to start the Gator scoring in the game.

Keuka's senior pitcher Whitney Tyler (Meshoppen, PA/Elk Lake) suffered the loss working 6.1 innings with nine hits, allowing four earned runs while strikeout out 10 RSC batters.

Sophomore Abby Eising (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville South) was ¾ with an RBI and a stolen base, while junior Jordan Cole (Campbell, NY/Campbell-Savona) was 2.4 with two RBI's.

Game # 2   RSC 10-2 Keuka (5 Innings)

The Gators scored 10 runs off eight hits with three doubles in sweeping Keuka for the team's fourth straight win over the Wolves as the two teams met on Tuesday at Keuka.

Dicranian and Lindsey once again worked double duty as the pair both pitched and had productive at-bats. They were both 2/3 with two RBI's, and a run scored, while Lindsey had a double.

Sophomore Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) scored three runs with a double, while Agate also had a double. Rookie outfielder Isabella Vano (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) was 1/3 with a pair of RBI's as well as the Gators also drew five walks.

Lindsey made the start, working two plus innings and allowed one earned run off two hits with a pair of walks. Dicranian worked three innings with no hits and no runs allowed after facing nine batters and now stands at 9-1 this spring.

On the season, Dicranian has a .553 batting average with eight doubles and 14 RBI's, while also standing at 9-1inthe circle with a 3.41 ERA in 63.2 innings of work and has 20 strikeouts. She boasts 14 career doubles, which ranks 18th on the career list, while adding 54 career hits. In the circle, her career resume includes a 10-8 record in 128.1 innings of work and is currently 21st. She 15th in career wins, while her 5.78 career ERA is 16th.  Agate now has 70 career hits in 76 career games played with 53 RBI's which ranks 20th on the career list.

RSC is back in action on April 24 hosting Elmira College in an Empire 8 doubleheader to be played at Clifton Commons' Memorial Field in Clifton Park, NY at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Prior to the second game, the Gators will honor their senior Emily Agate in conjunction with Senior Day.
