RSC drops Empire 8 game to Hartwick

Albany, NY —Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team hosted the Hawks of Hartwick College on Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest as the teams battled rain, sleet, and snow during the game. Hartwick triumphed, 22-7 to improve to 2-4 overall and in the E8, while the loss puts RSC at 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the league. The Hawks held a 13-5 lead at the intermission.

For the Gators, newcomer Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added three goals, while graduate performer Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added three points on two goals with an assist. Queeney won seven draw controls as well with a ground ball and converted one of two free position attempts for a score. Gage, added a caused turnover, a draw, and a ground ball as well for the Gators.

Queeney lead the Gators in scoring this spring with 17 points on 13 goals with four assists, while Gage is right behind her with 15 points on 8 goals with 7 assists. Gage is now third in career points at Sage with 76 adding 51 goals and 25 assists. She is second all-time in assists, second in draw controls (131), and continues to add to her active career most for most ground ball pickups with 127.

Hartwick's senior midfielder GinaMarie Wilson (East Meadown, NY/East Meadow) led the Hawks with nine points on four goals with five assists.  Senior Rachel Hedden (Burlington, CT/Lewis S. Mills) added six points on four goals with two assists, while junior Emily Schaub (Brewster, NY/Brewster) also finished with six points on five goals with an assist.

In goal for the Gators, senior Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) started and made two saves with five goals allowed in her eight minutes of service. Senior Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made two saves in 22 plus minutes of work with eight goals allowed. Sophomore Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of the Lourdes) also worked 30 minutes and made two saves with nine goals allowed.

Hartwick's senior goalie Jennifer Paszko (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had five saves in 60 minutes of work with seven goals allowed for the win to move to 3-4.

After today's contest, Azab is now third in career saves with 199 in 34 games played with a 5.85 career saves per game average which stands fourth. Plaisance ranks fifth with 155 career saves and is also fifth with her 4.56 career saves per game average.

Sage returns to action on April 24 travelling to Keuka College for a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
