Cumming's career day not enough as Gators fall at Keuka

Keuka Park, NY — Russell Sage College's men's basketball team travelled to Keuka College on Sunday afternoon for the firs-ever meeting of the two program in men's basketball. Keuka added a 91-79 win to improve to 1-6 overall and in the E8, while the loss puts Sage at 2-3 overall and in the league.

Keuka held a 44-42 lead at the half and used a strong second half shooting 54.2% in the second stanza (13-24) to earn the win.  Three starts for Keuka finished in double digits led by 21 and 20 points from Daniel Obunse and Nana Oteng.

For the Gators, junior Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) exploded for a career-high 23 points after making 9 –of- 15 shots from the floor with two three point baskets. He added three assists with a steal in the contest.

Junior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) added nine rebounds with 15 points and finished with two assists and two steals. Border has tallied 621 career points at Sage and is ninth on the scoring list just behind Jorrdan McCray with 637 points.

Junior center Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia) made tied his season high as he had 14 points with seven rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist. He now has 61 and is tied for third all-time with Marcus Hunter, Kai Deans, and Melvin Ford.

The Gators are back in action on Tuesday, March 23 hosting Elmira College in a 6 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
