Albany, NY — Russell Sage College women's soccer hosted St. John Fisher College on Sunday afternoon in an Empire 8 match-up. SJFC led 2-0 at the half, before RSC's junior forward Hallie Kloserman (Modena, NY/Wallkill) erupted for a second half hat trick to lead the Gators past the Cardinals, 3-2. With the win, RSC is now 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the league, while SJFC drops to 1-1 overall and also in the E8.
The win for the Gators over St. John Fisher College was the first since they joined the Empire 8 in the summer of 2017 as the two teams played to a 2-2 overtime tie in their first meeting.
SJFC scored first as junior forward Alexis Gossage (Victor, NY/Bloomfield) struck early at 11:19 for her first goal of the season. The Cardinals added second goal as 19:15 as rookie Christina Van Allen (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) had a breakaway and spotted her team to a 2-0 lead with her first goal of the year.
RSC's Klosterman struck on the opening play to start the second half for her first goal of the year at the 45:16 mark. She scored again at 46:07 to tie the action. She added her final goal of the day, the game-winner at 57:44 off a direct kick on the left side of the box from about 25 yards out to the left just over the keeper's hands. Klosterman now has 27 career points on nine goals with nine assists.
In goal for the Gators, sophomore keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) made nine saves and earned the win. SJFC's senior goalie Lila Platt (Rochester, NY/Brighton) took the loss and is now 1-1 after making six saves on the day.
The Gators are back in action at Nazareth College on March 27 for a 3 p.m. road Empire 8 contest.
