RSC Women's Lacrosse Strolls Past Houghton, 21-6

Houghton, NY —Russell Sage College's women's lacrosse team travelled to Houghton College for an Empire 8 contest and picked up a 21-6 victory. With the win, RSC is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8, Houghton drops to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the league. The 21-goal performance on Saturday was a season-high for the Gators and also the most goals scored by the team since joining the Empire 8 in 2018.

RSC led 11-3 at the half and was paced by the play as nine different players figured into the scoring output. Rookie Mary Mullen (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) exploded for a career day as the attacker added four goals. Newcomer Alexandra Queeney (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added three goals and two assists, while sophomore Samantha Shafer (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) added four points on three goals with an assist. Rookie Grace Hines (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) added three goals as well.

Graduate performer Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) added two goals with two assist, while sophomore Caroline Mushinski (Pownal, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) also added two goals and two assists. Senior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) also scored a goal, while rookie Laliah Espinal (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) found the net three times.  Senior Alex Franco (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) had two points on a goal with two assists to help the team's offense on Saturday.  

Gage is now third in career points at Sage with 73 adding 49 goals and 24 assists. She is second all-time in assists, second in draw controls (130), and continues to add to her active career most for most ground ball pickups with 126.

In goal for the Gators, senior Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) collected the win after playing 30 with seven saves on 11 shots faced with three goals allowed. She stands at 2-2 in net this spring. Sophomore Madeline Butta (Millbrook, NY/Our Lady of the Lourdes) worked 30 minutes and made four saves on six shots faced with three goals allowed.

After Saturday's contest, Azab is now third in career saves with 197, while also ranking second with her five career wins.

Sage returns to action on April 21 hosting Hartwick College in a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
