RSC MEN'S SOCCER BEATS ALFRED 2-0 IN EMPIRE 8 ACTION
Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's men's soccer team hosted the Saxons of Alfred University on Monday night in an Empire 8 contest. The Gators posted a 2-0 win to improve to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the E8, while Alfred drops to 0-4 overall and in the Empire 8.
RSC's junior captain Christian Vaalstuen (Lillestrom, Norway) scored the first goal of the night on a pass from senior defender Nathan Ficht (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) at 32:27 to give the Gators the 1-0 lead at the break. The goal was the first of the year for Vaalstuen and turned out to be the game-winner. He now has three career game-winners.
Senior Griffin Goodemote (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) added an insurance goal on the feed from Ficht at 71:22. The goal was the first of the year for Goodemote, while Ficht leads the Gators with his three assists this season. Goodmote elevated his career resume to include 20 points on eight goals with four assists.
RSC's rookie keeper Anthony Molina (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) picked up the win after making three saves and is now 3-1 with his first career shutout. Alfred's rookie Daniel Koenig (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) took the loss after allowing two goals with eight saves in the contest and falls to 0-4.
The Gators are back in action on April 11 hosting Houghton College in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest at ACP Stadium.
