Nazareth uses strong second half to overpower Gators, 78-70

Albany, NY — Russell Sage College women's basketball team hosted Nazareth College in an Empire 8 contest on Sunday afternoon. The Gators held a 39-27 lead at the break, the Golden Flyers clawed their way back and posted a 78-70 win to improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the league. The loss puts Sage at 1-4 overall and in the Empire 8.

Nazareth's junior forward Jadyn Abrams (Bath, NY/Haverling) exploded for 31 points to lead her team to the come from behind win. She tallied 17 points in the first half and was 4-5 from the floor and 2-2 from three-point range. In the second half, she added another 14 points after making all three of her three-point attempts and finished the day 5-5 from beyond the arch.

Sophomore guard Ryann Stefaniak (Batavia, NY/Batavia) racked up 16 points and hit 7-of-12 shots from the floor, while junior guard Miyah Sizer (Rochester, NY/Brighton) chipped in with 14 points with five assists.

RSC's senior forward Madasyn Bush (Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) had 19 points and made 8-of-16 shots from the floor, while also hauling in nine rebounds. Junior guard Lily Batule (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) added a personal-best 14 points off the bench and had seven defensive rebounds with two assists and a blocked shot for the Gators.  Junior Meghan Murray (Watervliet, NY/Watervliet) picked up 11 points with six boards to help the Gators hold a 48-43 edge on the boards.

After Sunday's action, Bush continues to add to her career resume at Sage as she now has 616 career points with 404 rebounds in 79 career games played.

Junior forward Emily Pike (Holmes, NY/Ticonderoga) added eight points, while junior guard Sammy Pasinella (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) had five points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Emily Erickson (Melrose, NY/Tamarac) added six points with seven assists, a block, a steal, and assist with four rebounds before fouling out.

Sage returns to action on March 26 hosting Keuka College in a 6 p.m. Empire 8 match-up.
