Gators drop two to Elmira in women's volleyball action

Albany, NY—Russell Sage College's women's volleyball team hosted the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College on Saturday afternoon in a pair of matches. Elmira won the first match, 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19). In the nightcap, Elmira collected a 3-1 win for the sweep of the Gators (25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 25-16). Elmira is now 3-1, while the Gators are 0-5.

In the first match, junior Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) had a team-leading 16.0 points as she had 12 kills with four aces, and 14 digs.  Junior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) added six kills with three aces and a pair of digs for 9.0 points. Senior defensive specialist Kayla Weaver (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin Perth) connected for 17 digs with an ace, while junior setter Francesca Gigliotti (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) had 19 setting assists with eight digs.  Rookie defensive specialist Rylie Gray (Bombay, NY/Salmon River Central) added eight digs with a kill for the Gators .

In the second contest, Gagnon led the Gators with her 11.5 points on seven kills with a .333 attack percentage. She added three aces with three block assists and two digs. Parkington picked up 10 digs with two aces, seven kills and capped the day with 9.5 points. Sophomore defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) led the Gators with 16 digs and ab ace with a pair of setting assists. Gigliotti added 10 setting assists with three aces, two digs and a kill in the contest.

RSC is back in action on March 31 hosting Houghton College in a 6 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
