BORDERS SCORES 16 AS RSC MEN BASKETBALL POSTS 59-43 WIN OVER ELMIRA
Albany, NY — Russell Sage College's men's basketball team hosted Elmira College on Tuesday evening in an Empire 8 contest. RSC led 32-13 at the half and cruised to a 59-43 victory. With the win, RSC is now 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8, while Elmira falls to 1-7 overall and 1-7 in the E8.
Junior guard Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) led the Gators with his 16 points with seven rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist as he shot 8-of-14 from the floor. The Gators had 10 different players figure into the scoring on Tuesday as well, while holding Elmira to just 22.5% shooting for the game (16-71). After Tuesday, Borders is now tied for eighth in career scoring with Jorrdan McCray (2014-2016) with 637 points.
Junior co-captain Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) added eight rebounds, including seven defensive boards, with four points and a blocked shot. Geronimo is currently eighth all-time in rebounding at Sage as he now has 282 career rebounds.
For the Gators, junior Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) collected nine points, while junior co-captain Stuart Phair (Canberra, Australia) added six points with two rebounds and a pair of blocks. He now has 63 and is third all-time in career blocks, while ranking 15th in rebounding as well with 244. Rookie center Will Ruiz (Bronx, NY/Wings Academy) added a career-best seven points off the bench with three blocks and three rebounds.
Elmira got a double-double from junior forward Rashaad Nurse (Queens, NY/Fallsburg) after he finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds with three steals and an assist.
The Gators are back in action on Thursday, March 25 hosting Utica College in a 6 p.m. Empire 8 contest.
