Albany, NY — Russell Sage College's men's basketball team hosted Utica College in Thursday evening in an Empire 8 contest. Utica posted the 59-44 win over the Gators to improve to 5-2 on the year, while the setback puts RSC at 3-4 on the season.
Utica held a 30-24 lead at the break. The Gators tied the game for the eighth time at the 7:04 mark (43-43) on a layup by sophomore forward Nathan Mannion (Castleton-On-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill). The Pioneers finished the final stretch holding the Gators to one point to close the road win out.
Junior co-captain Jason Geronimo (Orlando, FL/Colonial) added a career night on the boards as he had 15 rebounds including 12 defensive rebounds. He added five points with a steal and an assists. Geronimo moves to the No. 9 spot in career rebounding as he now has 289 rebounds.
Juniors Jalon Borders (Bartow, FL/Bartow) and Amani Cummings (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) each finished with nine points apiece, while Mannion added eight points with nine rebounds.
Utica's senior guard Kobe Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) added 17 points after making 7-of-12 shots from the floor. Junior guard Chris Green (White Plains, NY/Alexander Hamilton) collected 16 points with six assists and four steals as Utica finished with a 43.4% shooting performance for the night (23-53).
The Gators are back in action on Friday night at Utica College in a 5:30 p.m. Empire 8 road contest.
