"The difference between first and second place often comes down to the smallest of edges," said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano. "Proper nutrition should be part of an athlete's plan for success. Tim Wierman is a top leader in nutrition and we are excited to offer this programming to our student-athletes especially as they near break and the holidays."

The 2020-21 Empire 8 Student-Athlete Virtual Leadership series began with Mental Health Empowerment on Oct. 28, featuring keynote speaker Ivy Watts.

Throughout the academic year, E8 student-athletes will have an opportunity to take part in the monthly virtual speaker series that will target initiatives both inside and outside the realm of athletics to develop student-athletes' knowledge. These areas include diversity and inclusion, social justice, sportsmanship, health, wellness, leadership, sport psychology and life after athletics, among other topics. Programming will continue in January and go through the spring semester. The goal of the virtual programming is to enhance student-athletes' skills beyond their sports, focusing on topics that complement their athletic and academic pursuits as the conference prepares them to be "Tomorrow's Leaders.
