Gators open action at 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Championships; Maynard sets school record

RUSSELL SAGE COLLEGE WOMEN'S AND MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK TEAMS OPEN COMPETITION AT 2021 EMPIRE 8 OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Pittsford, NY — Russell Sage College men's and women's outdoor and field programs opened action on Friday afternoon at the 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The two-day event will take place at St. John Fisher College's Polisseni Track and Field Complex and wraps on May 8.

In the men's 10,000 meter run, senior Holden Maynard (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) finished in 7th place with his school record time of 33:48.83, shattering the record set in 2014 by Juan Reyes-Alvarez of 37:28.41.    

Senior Ellis Richardson (Hudson, NY/Hudson) posted a time of 51.58 in the 400 meter run to finish in third place. Senior Arnold Burnett (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) took ninth place in 58.21.

In the men's 4x800 relay, the Gators were fifth in 9:51.25 behind the efforts of junior Jared Young (Winthrop, NY/Brasher Falls Central), Richardson, Burnett, and junior Brett Labier (Albany, NY/Colonie).  

In the long jump, junior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) finished in seventh place with a performance of 6.25 meters.

Freshman Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central) finished in third place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after posting a time of 12:26.94.

Rookie Skylar Grybos (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) finished in 10th place in the 400 meter run in 1:06.37.

The women's 4 x 800 meter relay team finished sixth in 11:38.27 behind the efforts of newcomer Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties), Grybos, junior Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), and senior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River).  

In the javelin, senior Claire Connolly (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) was third with a throw of 27.65 meters, while rookie Fiona Mulligan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) took 10th with her throw of 22.68 meters. Rookie Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) was 14th with a throw of 21.38 meters and rookie Anna Breidenbach (Monson, MA/Monson) was next in 15th with a throw of 17.80 meters.

In the long jump, freshman Jasmine Zollman (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) was 15th with a performance of 4.00 meters, while rookie Victoria Johnson (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) picked up 17th with a mark of 3.82 meters. In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman Giulianna Capparello (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) posted a time of 19.17 in the trials, but did not advance to finals.
