Gators take two from Keuka; RSC now 9-1

Keuka Park, NY–Russell Sage College's softball team travelled to Keuka College on Tuesday afternoon for an Empire 8 doubleheader with the Wolves. RSC collected the 3-2 win in eight innings in the first game and then posted a 7-1 win to stand at 9-1 overall and 9-1 in the Empire 8. Keuka is now 3-9 overall and in the league.

Game #1   Sage 3-2 Keuka (8 innings)

The Gators once again came through in extra innings as sophomore Lauren Salmonese (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) reached on an error at second. She went to second on a passed ball. Rookie Isabella Vano (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) grounded out and Salmonese went to third on the play. Sophomore Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) singled to left center field to drive in Salmonese for the go ahead and winning run.

For the game, junior Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) added a double with a 2 for 4 effort at the plate with a run and an RBI. She also worked 8.0 innings for the Gators and earned the win. She allowed 2 earned runs off 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. She now stands at 7-1.

Junior outfielder Arianna Papas (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) had a triple with a run scored and was 1 for 4 at the plate.

Keuka's Whitney Tyler took the loss (2-4) after allowing two earned runs off five hits, while striking out 11 Gators in the game.

Game # 2   RSC 7-1 Keuka

RSC jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they beat the Wolves, 7-1.

Papas, this week's Empire 8 Co-Player of the Week, was 4-5 at the plate with a triple, a run scored and an RBI to pace the team. Sophomore Erika Markowski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored twice with an RBI and 2 for 3 at the plate. Vano was also 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Dicranian was2/4 with a run and an RBI for the nightcap.

Sophomore Makayla Lindsey (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) picked up the win (2-0) after working five innings with one earned run with four walks and a strikeout. Dicranian closed the game working 2 innings with no runs allowed off 3 hits with two strikeouts.

On the season, Papas has an impressive .591 batting average with a .977 slugging percentage. She has 13 RBI's with 9 extra-base hits. Dicranian is batting .537 with a team-best 7 doubles and added her 50th career hit on Tuesday and has now worked in 118.1 innings in the circle on her career.
