RSC Track Teams Ready to Compete at 2021 Empire 8 Championships

Albany, NY — Russell Sage College men's and women's outdoor and field programs will compete on May 7-8 at the 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The two-day event will take place at St. John Fisher College's Polisseni Track and Field Complex on May 7 and 8.

Head Coach David Taranto brings a talented lineup in the championship. Over the course of the past month, several of the 2021 team members have broken school records.

Rookie Skylar Grybos (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) penned her name in the record book for her performance in the 400 meter run in 1:03.82 as she broke the school record (1:04.59 set in 2016 by Nyasia Irby).

Another Gator newcomer, Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) broke the school record in both the 800 meter run and the 1,500 meter run. Named RSC's Female Rookie of the Year this past week, she was also honored as the Empire 8 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Meet. Her time in the 1,500 meter run is 5:06.79, while her time in the 800 meter run is 2:30.40.

Freshman Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central) holds the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after posting a time of12:24.45 at the University of Buffalo Invitational.

Rookie Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) established the program's record in the hammer toss (29.22 meters) and has hit that mark twice this spring.

RSC's men's team has also had significant performances this spring as they have also broken five school records along the way. 

Freshman Dominic Nova (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia), who was named the 2021 Rookie of the Year at the Empire 8 Indoor Championship, is looking to continue his efforts this week. He holds the program's records in the 800 meter run (2:01.41) as well as the 1,500 meter run (4:16. 23). He was also saluted as the Male Rookie Athlete of the Year by RSC on Sunday.

Senior Ellis Richardson (Hudson, NY/Hudson) holds the school record as well in the 400 meter run after posting a time of 50.88 this spring.

RSC's lineups in the 4 x 100 relay and the 4x 400 relay have also broken the school record this year. 

In the 4 x 100 relay, the record holders include junior Ramasoj Williams (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt), senior Arnold Burnett (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy), junior Tyler Mitchell (Bronx, NY/All Hallows), and Richardson after they recorded time of 44.99 at the SUNY-Delhi Invitational last month. The same foursome broke the 4 x 400 record while competing at ACP as they had a time of 3:31.21.

The championship gets underway on May 7 at 2:30 p.m. with the women's and men's field events, while the running events will start on Friday at 3 p.m.
