Chicopee, MA–Sage's men's volleyball team travelled to Massachusetts to face the Blazers of Elms College in a non-conference match. Elms posted a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-19, 25-19) to improve to 3-3, while the Gators drop to 0-9.
Sage was paced by the play of senior Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) as he led the team with 18.0 points after adding 12 kills with two aces, five digs, a .310 attack percentage with six total blocks. Senior captain Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) picked up nine kills with two digs and 9.0 points.
Senior Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) finished with six kills and 8.0 points with two digs, an ace and a solo block.
Junior setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) added 24 setting assists with two digs, and a kill.
Through nine matches this season, several Gators are taking aim at the career record book. Wenz is sixth in career kills with 485, while also standing third in solo blocks (48), third in block assists (140) and third in total blocks (190) and also sixth in points (652.0). Jennings surpassed the 1,300 setting assist plateau on Wednesday and is third with his 1,310 career setting assists.
Sage will be in action on February 5 hosting SUNY-Poly in a non-conference match in Kahl Gym at 7 p.m.
