Gators split taking a win over Chicago Concordia, but fall in nightcap to WIT

Leesburg, Florida–Sage's softball team posted a 6-4 win on the first game they played on Wednesday as they beat Chicago Concordia, 6-4. The Gators fell in their next game to Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-1. The Gators are 5-5 on the year.

Game #1   Sage 6-4 Chicago Concordia

Against Chicago Concordia Sage's rookie Katelyn Rice (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) was 3 for 5 with three RBI's to pace the Gator offense on Wednesday morning. Sophomore designated player Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) added a pair of doubles and was 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Sophomore Kate Keeley (Waterbury, CT/Sacred Heart) added a triple for the Gators and was 1/3 with a pair of runs scored as Sage combined for 10 hits in the contest.

Senior captain Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), this week's Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week, worked 4.2 innings allowing two earned runs off four hits. Junior pitcher Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) came in the game working 2.1 innings and earned the win in relief with no runs off one hit with a strikeout as she improves to 2-3 in the circle.

Game # 2   Wentworth 7-1 Sage

Against Wentworth, the Leopards jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Sage pulled within a run in the bottom of the second as Rice had an RBI to score Keeley who reached on a fielder's choice. The Leopards added two runs in the top of the third and three runs in the top of the seventh to break open the game.

Dicranian was 2 for 4 at the plate, while Swavely also collected a hit.

In the circle, Legace worked seven innings with one earned run off seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks as she drops to 2-4 on the year.

WIT's Kayla DeMedeiro worked a complete game allowing four hits with one unearned run and struck out two improving to 1-2 on the year.

Sage will be back in action on Thursday, March 12 on the final day of their spring break trip facing St. Scholastic at 12:45 p.m. and Penn State Hazelton at 2:45 p.m.
