Pasinella explodes for 29 points as Gators improve to 2-0 in E8 beating Hartwick

Oneonta, NY–Sage's women's basketball team picked up their second Empire 8 road win in as many games this week. Sage beat Hartwick, 83-78 as sophomore guard Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) scored a career-high 29 points. Sage improves to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Hartwick drops to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Gators led 47-37 at the half and finished the game shooting 50.0% from three point range after making 8-of-16 three pointers and 50.0% from the floor (30-60).  Hartwick led by six points with 2:15 left in the first quarter but Sage turned up their play and led by 10 at the half. The Gators had a 17 point lead in the final minute of the third quarter.

Pasinella shot 5-of-11 from three-point range and poured in a career-best 29 points, bettering her previous high of 22 points from earlier this season. She hit 10-of-21 field goals with five assists in the action.

Graduate player Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) picked up 15 points with seven assists and five rebounds, while senior tri-captain Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added 12 points with nine rebounds to contribute in the win. Senior Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) added ten points with a pair of three-point baskets in the contest.

Sage's Bowman continues to edge closer to her 1,000th career point as she is 12th on the scoring list with 847 points with 678 rebounds and 239 career assists. Bowman stands is fourth in rebounds (678), while ranking eighth in assists. She also has made 217 career free throws and is currently fifth on the career list. Bowman's older sister, Megan Bowman holds the career assist mark with 458 during her career that spanned from 2011-2015. Bowman has also now played in 95 games at Sage with 92 starts and is now tied with her sister for 7th in career games played.

Flynn now has 670 career points with 543 rebounds and is in the No. 8 spot on the list and has played in 72 games, which is tied for 26th. Patregani has connected for 621 points and now has 136 career three's, good enough for fourth on the program's career list.

Sage will be in action on January 11 hosting Elmira College in a 4 p.m. Empire 8 contest in Kahl Gym.
