Brittany Gage named Women's Lacrosse Gator of the Year

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' department of athletics recently announced the recipients of the department's annual awards.  Sage named senior Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) as the 2019-2020 women's lacrosse Gator of the Year.

Head women's lacrosse coach Lauren Marois noted, "Brittany showed commitment and dedication to the program every single day." She added, "In our three games this short season, she was a crucial factor to our success. She excelled in the midfield and helped on both the defensive side, offensive side as well as in transition and on draw controls. She always has such a positive attitude, a smile on her face and truly plays the game with passion. Her willingness to learn, motivation to become better for the team and selfless play has always been admirable. I have been honored to coach her the past four years and she has done so much for the program."

On the 2020 campaign, she had four goals in three appearances and also led the team with 13 ground ball pick-ups and six caused turnovers.

With her 2020 selection as the Gator of the Year, Gage is now a two-time honoree. She was named the 2018 Sage Women's Lacrosse Gator of the Year, after she tallied 13 points. She was also a team-leader with her 35 draw controls and also collected 33 ground balls with 10 caused turnovers.

As a junior on the 2019 team, she served as a co-captain and scored 20 goals with 8 assists for 28 points, which was second on the team. She added 45 ground ball pick-ups with 53 draws. She led the team with her draws and also caused 21 turnovers having played in all 15 contests.

In her four seasons on the lacrosse field, Gage has continued to make her impact on the program. She is ranked 7th in career points with 61, while ranking third in career assists with 17. Gage is ninth with her 43 career goals, having played in played in 47 career games with 43 starts. She is fourth in career appearances and tied for second in games started at Sage. Gage ranks second all-time with her 118 career ground balls, while also ranking second in draw controls with 122. Her 64 career caused turnovers stands third, while her five career man-up goals is also second for the Gators.

A health sciences major at Sage as an undergraduate, Gage was a Dean's List student. She also earned honors on the Empire 8 Presidents' List and as a member of the Sage Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.  She was also honored in the Fall of 2019 with another selection to the E8 Presidents' List. She is in the graduate school at Sage in the Occupational Therapy program.  She earned her second straight selection to Sage's Athletic Honor Society with a selection this spring.
