Hilton, NY — The Sage Colleges men's basketball team produced this week's Empire 8 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week as sophomore forward Charles Davis (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou Hamer) was saluted as the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, marking his second straight selection.
Sage is coming off a weekend that saw the Gators knock off St. John Fisher College on Friday night before falling to Nazareth College on Saturday. With their performance, Sage has secured the team's first Empire 8 Men's Basketball Tournament appearance. Sage is now 14-10 overall and is 7-6 in the Empire 8. Next up Sage hosts Utica College on February 22 in the team's final Empire 8 regular-season game of the year. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday in Kahl Gym as the Gators will honor their seniors in conjunction with Senior Day.
A newcomer to the Gators this season, Davis helped Sage to a 1-1 week, averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 78.6 percent from the floor and 71.4 percent from the foul line. He added 12 points and five rebounds in the team's 77-73 road win over St. John Fisher College. He backed it up with 15 points and six rebounds against Nazareth College. Overall, he has a 9.0 ppg average on 208 points, which is second on the team. He has started four of 23 games played and has a 4.8 rpg average with a 61.4% shooting percentage, having made 81-of-132 field goals. He has 22 blocked shots with 26 steals and 16 assists and is averaging 20.6 minutes a game in his first collegiate season.
