Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team hosted the Raptors of Bard College on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. The two teams were deadlocked until late in the game when a foul was called just outside of the box and the Gators took advantage on the play. Sage's sophomore Angela Gonzalez (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) took the direct kick at the 87:53 mark and scored the only goal of the night to lift Sage to their second straight shutout win. Sage is now 2-1, while Bard drops to 1-2.
For Gonzalez the goal was her first of the season and her first career game-winning goal after scoring only three points (1g, 1a) as a rookie in 2018.
Sage's rookie keeper Kallan Shertzer (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned her second straight career shutout after making seven saves on the night. Bard's junior keeper Abigail Stanley (St. Petersburg, FL/AFNorth International School) suffered the loss with eight saves in the 90 minutes of work.
Sage is back in action on September 7 hosting MCLA in a 5 p.m. non-conference match at ACP field, while Bard College visits Drew University and will take on the U.S. Coast Guard Academy September 7 at 3:30 p.m. in Madison, NJ.
