Hood overtakes Sage in Virginia, 22-13

Virginia Beach, VA —The Gators of Sage travelled to Virginia and played a non-conference matchup with the Blazers of Hood College. Hood triumphed 22-13 to move to 4-2 on the year, while the loss puts Sage at 2-5.

Sage's sophomore attacker Robert Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) continues his torrid scoring pace as he added four goals in the contest. Freshman midfielder Aaron Heyman (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) added five points after connecting on two goals with three assists.

Junior midfielder Sherrod Banton (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) tacked on three goals as well for the Gators. Sophomore Bailey Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) picked up three points on two goals and an assist, while rookie Anthony Abreu (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) added two goals.

Sophomore defenseman Liam Dowd (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) led the team with his five ground balls and a caused turnover, while rookie long stick defense man James Neubert (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck North) added three ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers.

Sage's s sophomore goalie Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) made 15 saves in the contest and stands at 2-5 this year.  He has made 113 saves through seven games and owns a 16.14 goals against average as well.

After Thursday's action, Robert Martin leads the 2020 Gators with his 28 points on 25 goals with three assists, while Bailey Martin is the team's second leading scorer with 19 points on 14 goals with 5 assists. Freshman Anthony Abreu (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) is also tied for second in points with 19 on 13 goals with 6 assists. Sophomore Shea Obado (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) leads the team with seven assists this year and has 18 ground ball pickups to go with his three goals.

Sophomore Joe Moreno (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) has a team-best 24 ground balls, while sophomore defenseman Anthony Rafferty (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) has 21 ground balls. Rookie middie Sean McGirr (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) has won 32-of-91 faceoffs thus far with a pair of goals and assists through seven games.

After Thursday's game, Robert Martin continues to add to his program-leading scoring efforts as he is first in points (81), goals (44), and assists (37), while Obado has moved to No. 5 in points with 30 and No. 2 in assists with 18. Obado also leads the career record list with his 23 caused turnovers. Capitelli has made 164 career saves which ranks first as well having moved atop the leader board.

As a result of the impact from COVID-19, The Sage College Colleges will extend its Spring Break by one week and transition all coursework to distance learning on Monday March 23, 2020 through Friday April 3, 2020. Any online courses that are already being delivered will continue as normal. We will reevaluate and inform the community of our plans for April 4, 2020 and beyond. Due to this change, all Sage athletic events during that time period are also postponed.
