Maegan Villa tapped as Women's Soccer Gator of the Year

Albany, NY — The Sage Colleges' department of athletics recently announced the recipients of the department's annual awards.  Named the 2019-2020 Sage women's soccer Gator of the Year was senior tri-captain Maegan Villa (Marlboro, NY/Washingtonville). 

Head women's soccer coach Garrett Cobb noted, "Maegan is an exceptional player and proved that over her entire career." Cobb added, "She was integral to our success and was vital all through this past season. A captain who led by example on the field. A creative genius in the attack and absolute boss in midfield, who wouldn't shy away from challenges. Well deserving of our Gator of the Year!"

Villa was a four-year letterwinner and closes her career ranked 10th with her 12 career assists. She was also named to the 2019 Empire 8 Women's Soccer Honorable Mention Team for her play this past season. Along the way, Villa played in 73 career games, which is second all-time at Sage and made 67 career starts. Her 67 starts at Sage, is tied for third most at Sage. She also added 32 career points on 10 goals with 12 assists and had four game-winning goals. Villa, a Sage Scholar-Athlete honoree and a three-time Empire 8 Presidents' List honoree, was recognized for her work in psychology this spring and honored as a Sage Scire Scholar.
