Women's Volleyball posts 3-1 road win over SUNY-Cobleskill

 

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball returned home to the Iorio Gymnasium on Tuesday evening to lose a hard fought decision to the visiting Gators of Sage College 3-1 by scores of: 25-16, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-22. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 5-6 overall on the year while the Gators are now 2-13 overall on the season.

The Gators took the first two sets behind the play of sophomore outside hitter setter Emma Parkington, Dalton, Mass., Wahconah Regional High School, who finished the evening with 13 kills and 10 digs on the evening and from graduate student middle hitter Miranda Nethaway, Fonda, N.Y., Fonda-Fultonville High School, who finished the evening with 14 kills, five digs four total blocks and three assists.

Sage also received strong outings from junior setter Brooke Monty, Copake, N.Y., Taconic Hills High School, who tallied 12 assists and seven digs on the evening and from senior outside hitter/right side hitter Megan Ryder, Broadalbin, N.Y., Broadalbin-Perth High School, who had seven kills and 22 digs on the night with Monty playing well in the fourth game to put the contest in the win column for the visiting Gators.

The Fighting Tigers were paced by junior setter Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High Schoo/Onondaga Community College, with 30 assists on the evening and by junior defensive specialist Megan Gass, West Monroe, N.Y., Central Square High School/Finger Lakes Community College, who contributed 16 digs on the night for the home team.

Up front for the Orange & Black, sophomore middle hitter Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, led the team with seven kills in the match with junior outside hitter McKenzie Homer, West Winfield, N.Y., Mt. Markham High School/Mohawk Valley Community College, chipping in five kills and 12 digs.  

Sage is back in action on Friday, September 27 hosting Nazareth College at 6 p.m. in Kahl Gym in the team's 2019 Empire 8 opener.
