Albany, NY–The Gators of the Sage Colleges posted a 64-47 win on Saturday afternoon over the Highlanders of Houghton College. The victory marked the 100th career win for Sage's Head Women's Basketball Coach Allison Coleman. Now in her sixth season at Sage, she becomes the first and only women's basketball coach in the program's history to record 100 wins since the team started varsity competition in 1972. Coleman is now 100-54 at Sage for a .649 career win percentage.
Sage improves to 11-10 overall and 7-3 in the Empire 8, while Houghton drops to 5-16 overall and 3-7 in the league.
For the Gators, sophomore guard Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) led Sage with her 14 points with two assists, while graduate player, forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added her ninth double-double of the season after she had 10 points with 12 rebounds with three steals. She now has 16 career double-doubles. Flynn now has 777 career points and moved into the No. 14 spot in scoring ahead of Kelly Murphy (772 points, 1999-2002). She is also sixth in rebounding now with 627 boards and 11th with 38 career blocks.
Graduate performer, Kaitlyn Bowman (Chateaugay, NY/Saranac) also put up a double-double after she finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds with four assists, and a blocked shot. Bowman, who has now appeared 103 career games, which stands fifth all-time at Sage has 14 career double-doubles with five this season.
Houghton was led by the play of senior guard Cori Beck (Monkton, MD/Hereford) with 15 points and five rebounds with a pair of steals and assists for the Highlanders. Sophomore center Emie Taylor (Ghana, Africa) just missed a double-double off the bench with nine points and 10 rebounds with a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
Sage hosts Alfred University next on February 9 at 2 p.m. in Kahl Gym, while Houghton College travels to Utica College for a 7:30 p.m. Empire contest at Utica on February 11.
