NAZARETH COLLECTS 1-0 EMPIRE 8 MEN'S SOCCER WIN OVER SAGE
Rochester, NY — Sage's men's soccer team travelled to Nazareth College for an Empire 8 match on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flyers collected the 1-0 win to beat the Gators as Justin Pumputis scored his first goal of the season and the only tally of the match to propel Nazareth to the key Empire 8 victory. With the win, Nazareth is now 9-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while the loss puts Sage at 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Nazareth held a 1-0 lead at the half as Puputis scored on a pass from Sam Smyth at 26:27 and held the Gators off the scoreboard the rest of the match. Nazareth held a narrow 12-11 edge on the shots, but their keeper, Brian Wilkin made five saves in earning the shutout win and is now 9-2-1 in net. Sage's sophomore keeper Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) finished the day with three saves and falls to 6-5 this fall.
Sage returns to action on October 12 hosting St. John Fisher College in a 2 p.m. Empire 8 contest at ACP's Stadium.
