Martin adds five points in opener as Sage falls at WCSU

Danbury, CT —The Sage Colleges' men's lacrosse team travelled to Connecticut to open the new season against the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University. Timothy Yannucci (Coram, NY), Christian Sparacino (Manorville, NY) and Keith Ditta (Smithtown, NY) each scored three goals and the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Sage at Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon and is now 2-0 on the year, while Sage drops to 0-1.

Four other Colonials scored two goals each as the Colonials are now averaging 22 goals in two early-season victories.  Ryan Reuling (Groton, CT), Eric Caldwell (East Moriches, NY), Connor Mayette (Huntington, NY) and Zak Santoemma (Madison, CT) tickled the twine twice on Saturday.

Rueling and Caldwell sit atop the team's scoring chart, now with nine and seven goals, respectively.

Sage, now 0-1, also had three players score a hat-trick.  Rookie attacker Anthony Abreu (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township),sophomore attacker Robert Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and sophomore attackman Bailey Martin (Syracuse, NY/Onandaga Central) each scored three goals for the Gators. Bailey Martin added two assists to lead Sage in points and become the young program's all-time point leader with 57 while owning the career assist mark with 35.

Junior goalie Perry Cassidy (East Setauket, NY) earned his second victory between the pipes after making seven saves in 39 minutes of action.  Justin Tarsi (Danbury, CT) made one stop in relieve of Cassidy while Sean Young (Lindenhurst, NY) came on in the closing minutes.

Sophomore Michael Capitelli (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) made 17 saves for Sage and withstood a barrage of 55 shots on the afternoon.

The Colonials took a 16-6 lead into intermission after Sparacino scored an unassisted marker with 34 seconds left in the second quarter.

Sage returns to action on February 24 for a 4 p.m. road match at Skidmore College.
