On January 15, 2025, Russell Sage College announced the hiring of Erich Skelly (Grand Island, N.Y.) as its head men’s lacrosse coach.

Skelly, who played collegiately at SUNY Brockport, has been coaching at the college level since 2011, most recently serving as the head coach at Albright College, located in Reading, Pennsylvania. After establishing and building the program’s culture during his first season in 2023, he doubled the Lions’ win total in 2024. The six victories were the most by Albright in a season since 2017.

“I am extremely excited to join the Russell Sage Athletics Department and lead the men's lacrosse program,” said Skelly.  “A big thank you to Jim Lyons, Director of Athletics, and the entire search committee for this opportunity.  Everyone in the department has been so welcoming and the team is eager to compete at an extremely high level.  I would also like to thank everyone on my career path who has helped me get to Russell Sage, I have had some amazing mentors and coached some incredible student-athletes to get to this point.  I look forward to taking the Russell Sage Men's Lacrosse program to the next level. GO GATORS!!”

"I am very pleased to announce the hiring of Erich Skelly as the second head coach in the history of Russell Sage men's lacrosse,” commented Lyons.  “We deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work that Ryan Lanigan put into starting and developing our program and I feel strongly that Coach Skelly is the right person to lead us into the next stage of our growth.  Erich's passion for teaching lacrosse and developing young people was evident immediately in the interview process. Gator lacrosse couldn't be in better hands, and we are thrilled to welcome Erich into the Russell Sage Athletics family."

Prior to coming to Albright, Skelly served as an assistant coach at both Sacred Heart University and Binghamton University and was a graduate assistant at SUNY Brockport. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Brockport in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
