Hartwick collects 68-60 win over Gators

Albany, NY–The Hawks of Hartwick College posted a 68-60 road win over Sage in Empire 8 women's basketball action on Saturday. With the win, Hartwick is now 11-9 overall and 5-4 in the E8, while the loss puts Sage at 10-10 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The two teams were deadlocked at 30-30 at the half and both teams had a strong third quarter as Hartwick led 44-43 after three quarters.

Hartwick took a 48-47 lead in the fourth at 8:42 as sophomore guard Molly Kirby (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem) had a jumper to spot the Hawks to a lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Kirby and junior guard Mary Schoenherr (Unionville, CT/Farmington) both finished with 16 points, while Schoenherr added five assists, three steals with three rebounds. Sophomore Maggie Kirby (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem) almost had a double-double as she finished with 12 points and nine rebounds with a 6-10 effort from the floor.

For the Gators, sophomore guard Sammy Pasinella (Troy, NY/Mechanicville) led Sage with her 19 points with four assists and four rebounds and shot 8-of-9 from the line in the contest.

Graduate player and forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added her eighth double-double of the season after she had 15 points with 11 rebounds with three blocks. She now has 15 career double-doubles. Flynn now has 767 career points and moved into the No. 15 spot in scoring ahead of Kristen Marcinczyk (1992-1995, 744 points), while also ranking sixth in rebounding now with 615 boards and 11th with 38 career blocks.

Senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) finished with 13 points and five rebounds for the Gators who held a 45-34 edge on the boards but could not get over a 2-15 effort from three-point range in the game. Patregnanin is now fourth with her 144 career three-pointers and is closing in on her 700th career point as she now has 673 points in 96 games played at Sage.

Sage hosts Houghton College on February 7 in a 7:30 p.m. Empire 8 contest in Kahl Gym. Hartwick returns to action on February 7 hosts St. John Fisher College in a 7:30 Empire 8 match-up.
