Buzzy stops 19 in Sage's 1-1 double overtime tie vs. Hamilton

Albany, NY – Freshman goalkeeper Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) made 19 saves, the most since 2009, as the Sages Colleges women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 1-1 double overtime tie vs. Hamilton College at the Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon. The Gators are 4-0-1 while the Continentals stand 1-1-1.

Buzzy tied Brittany McDonald for the second most saves in a game in Sage women's soccer history. McDonald, who holds the record with 26, had 19 against St. Joseph's College on September 26, 2009.

Hamilton outshot Sage, 35-6, including 7-2 in the two 10 minute overtime periods. The guests also had all seven corners and freshman Caity Smith (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake Regional) made three stops for the Continentals. The game was scoreless at the half, while Buzzy made seven stops in the period.

Sage opened the scoring at 67:45. Senior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) headed in from close in front a pass from the left side from sophomore defender Samantha Schmidt (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen)

). It was Marfone's team leading third goal of the season. At 75:45, Hamilton senior defender Cassie Hayward (Ashford, NY/Pomfret School) tallied her first of the year when she took a drive from about 20 yards out in the middle to tie it at 1-1.

Late in the second overtime, Buzzy came up very big in preserving the tie. She made a quick save near the right post with 4:33 left on a shot from sophomore forward Cat Gamino (Westbury, NY/Carle Place). Moments later with 3:57 remaining, she made a high save after a shot over a crowd from junior defender Kristin Hughes (South Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury).

Sage, off to the best start in Head Coach Garrett Cobb's three seasons, opens the Empire 8 season with a September 15 game at Stevens at 11 a.m. Hamilton hosts NESCAC rival Trinity September 15 at 11 a.m.
