Hoboken, NJ— Jess Broad scored a game high 22 points with eight rebounds to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology to a 72-62 victory over The Sage Colleges in Empire 8 women's basketball action at Canavan Arena Tuesday night. The Ducks improved to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8, while the Gators fell to 7-7 for the season and 2-3 in the league.
Maddi Hahn and Anna Toke scored 13 points each and Toke led the Ducks with nine rebounds. Each player also posted two blocked shots. Stevens shot 40% and forced 23 turnovers in the contest.
Sage was led by freshman forward Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam), who recorded a career and game high 15 rebounds along with eight points. A total of 11 of her rebounds came on the defensive boards, and eclipsed her previous high of nine boards vs. Widener. Junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) posted 10 rebounds with nine points and junior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) scored 11 points for the Gators. Senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored eight points for the Gators and her 1,179 career points leaves her just 20 away from third all-time at Sage.
Stevens had a 17-11 lead after the first period and took a 35-24 lead into the half. In the second quarter, the Gators trailed by just three at 17-14 with 9:47 to go in the half, but the Ducks went on a 6-0 run for a 23-14 lead with 6:34 left. The Ducks took the 11-point lead into the half. Stevens outscored Sage, 23-12 in the third period to open it up to a 58-36 lead entering the final 20 minutes. During that quarter, the hosts went on a 14-7 run in the first 6:34 of the period. Sage nearly doubled up the scoring in the fourth (26-14).
Sage is back in action for an Empire 8 home game Friday night against Alfred at 5:30 p.m. Stevens hosts Houghton Friday in league play at 5:30 p.m.
