Schnaible's key singles victory lifts Gators past Castleton
Castleton, VT—The Sage Colleges' men's tennis team travelled to Vermont to take on the Spartans of Castleton University on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match. Sage triumphed 5-4 as junior Tyler Schnaible (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) had the decisive match as he collected a win at No. 2 singles.
With the win, Sage is now 2-7, while the Spartans fall to 2-8.
Winning their singles matches for the Gators were sophomore Dan Mackey (Westerlo, NY/Greenville), rookie Ryan Burke (Greenville, NY/Greenville), and sophomore Mike Basile (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) as well as Schnaible at No. 2 singles.
In doubles, Burke and his partner, sophomore Mitesh Joshi (Lake George, NY/Lake George) were victorious at the No. 3 spot on the ladder as they added an 8-7 (7-5 tiebreaker) win over the Castleton duo of Spencer Butter and Nate Hinson.
With his five singles wins this spring, Schnaible continues to add to the Gator single-season victory mark for the program, while also elevating his career singles resume to 8-8, another Sage school mark for most career singles victories.
Sage's next home match with Alfred University will take place on Saturday, April 20 at Sport Time Tennis Center in Schenectady, NY at 1 p.m.
