St. John Fisher holds off Sage, 68-63

Pittsford, NY—Erin Hulbert posted a double-double with 19 points and a game high 10 rebounds to lead St. John Fisher to a 68-63 women's basketball victory over visiting The Sage Colleges in Empire 8 action at Bobby Wanzer Court Friday night. The host Cardinals improved to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the E8, while the Gators now stand 6-6 and 1-2 in league play.

Hulbert also had four assists, four steals and three blocks and made seven of nine shots from the floor. Sydney Masna scored 16 and made all six free throw attempts while Maisy Booth and Ella Ecker scored eight points each for Fisher, which shot 43% for the game and had a 47-38 rebounding advantage.

Sage was led by junior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh), who scored a game and season best 21 points. Senior guard Emily Parslow (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) scored 12 points with three assists and two steals. Parslow now has 1,136 career points, as she stands 63 points shy of third all-time in Sage career scoring annals.

Sage junior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) added 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman forward Giuliana Pritchard (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) led all Gators with eight rebounds, one shy of her career high. She matched her career high of six assists, set vs. Utica earlier this season. Sage shot 33% and made 50% of the three-point attempts (seven for 14) while forcing 23 turnovers.

Sage led 15-11 after the first quarter but the Cardinals were hot in the second 10 minutes, outscoring the guests, 27-5 for a 38-20 halftime lead. It was the largest lead of the night for Fisher. But in the third quarter the Gators turned the tables, outscoring the hosts, 20-9. Sage got to within four at 44-40 after a free throw by freshman forward Kyra Oeffler (Green Island, NY/Heatly) with 1:20 left in the third period. Fisher took a 47-40 lead into the fourth period. Mallory Wood's layup with 2:22 left gave Fisher an eight-point advantage at 59-51, but Sage got within three twice, including when Parslow hit a three-pointer with four seconds left to make it a 66-63 Fisher lead. But Masna iced it two seconds later with two free throws.

Sage plays Saturday at Empire 8 rival Nazareth at 2 p.m. while St. John Fisher hosts Stevens at 2 p.m. in league play.
