Sage women's track team pens 4 more school record efforts to season feats!

SAGE TRACK TEAM COMPETE AT CAPITAL DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP AT RPI; SAGE WOMEN SET 4 MORE SCHOOL RECORDS

Troy, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's outdoor track and field team was in action on Saturday at the Capital District Championship hosted by RPI. Keeping their streak alive, the Gators women's team added four more school records on Saturday.

Sage's junior Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) added two school record performances on Saturday as she broke her own mark in the shot put taking eighth place with a throw of 10.74 meters, bettering her record of 10.64 meters she set last week competing at the UAlbany Classic. She also broke the javelin record set in 2015 by Helen Putriment competing the Capital District Championship as well with a throw of 30.51 meters. Van Alstyne had a throw of 30.78 meters at the meet on Saturday.

Sophomore Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) added a time of 2:33.03 to take 15th on Saturday to break the record set by her current teammate at the SUNY-Delhi Meet with a time of 2:33.53 by freshman Kerry Flower (Schenactady, NY/Schalmont) (2:33.53).

Not to be left out of the banner day, Flower broke her own mark in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:09.88 and finished in 13th. She broke her own time of 5:11.45 from late March.

Sage's senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a time of 5:29.00 and took 23rd in the 1,500 meter run, while senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Fort Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) finished in 27th in 5:34.52 in the event.  Junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) took 33rd in 5:51.28.

Also running in the 800 meter run, rookie Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) took home 30th in 3:09.88.  In the 200 meter run, rookie Shanice Dominick (New York, NY/Automotive) took 23rd in 32.95.

Junior Joanna Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) posted a time of 18.70 and took 11th place in the 100 meter dash.  She was also tenth in the long jump with a mark of 4.26 meters. Junior Victoria Fisher (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) was 25th in the shot put with a throw of 8.27 meters and also 12th in the javelin with a throw of 21.42 meters.  

Sage will be back in action on May 3-4 at the 2019 Empire 8 Championships which will be hosted by Houghton College.
