Gators take on Plattsburgh on Senior Day

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges was slated to host a tri-match on Saturday at Kahl Gym, but Lehman College was unable to attend due to the weather. Sage and Plattsburgh State faced one another in a volleyball double-header instead. Plattsburgh took the first match, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-10, 25-19) and the nightcap, 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-18). Sage wraps the season with a 5-24 mark, while Plattsburgh finishes the year with a record of 8-21.

In the first match, Sage's freshman outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) collected 10 kills with nine setting assists, an ace, seven digs and a team-best 12.5 points. Junior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) picked up seven kills with 16 digs. She made just one receiving error in 22 attempts for a .957 receiving percentage and had 8.5 points along the way.

Junior libero Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) collected a match-best 30 digs with one receiving error in 30 attempts for an impressive .968 receiving percentage.  

Junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) racked up five kills with seven digs and three block assists.

Sophomore Renee Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) picked up four kills while sophomore outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) posted six kills and added seven digs. Senior Allison Bardwell (Whately, MA/Frontier Regional) racked up two aces in the action.

In the second match with the Cardinals, Rowell paced the Gators with her eight kills and had 9.0 points and five digs. Parkington finished with three kills, four digs and 11 setting assists. Ryder led the Gators with 18 digs and picked up six kills and a pair of block assists. 

Sophomore Renee Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) tallied six kills and a block assist as well in the action. Nethaway had two kills with three digs and four block assists. Senior Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) had a block assist with a kill for the Gators.

On the 2018 season, Parkington finished with a team-best 223.0 points on 174 kills with 23 aces and 47 blocks and 169 digs. Nethaway was second on the team in points with 200.0 and led Sage with her 70 total blocks. She wraps the season moving to the No. 8 spot on the Gator career total block list with 171 after starting the season 14th. She also boasts 347 career kills and 466.5 points in her two seasons on the squad.

Sage's two seniors Barwell and Taylor also wrapped their stellar playing careers on Saturday. Both accomplished scholar-athletes helped the Gators and are four-year letterwinners. Taylor appeared in 109 matches at Sage with 237 career kills and 109 total blocks. Taylor finishes her time ranked 11th all-time in total blocks.  Bardwell worked in 67 career matches at Sage with 54 digs, and 28 aces with an impressive .896 serving percentage as a Gator.
