Elmira, NY - The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team lost a tough match against Utica College at Elmira College's Speidel Gymnasium Saturday. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-7, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15 and 15-13 in five sets. Host Elmira later defeated Sage, 25-6, 25-13 and 25-12. The Gators stand 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8. In the first match of the day vs. Utica, the Pioneers were led by Nicole Herringshaw, who had a match high 16 kills and an attack percentage of .324. Jenna Prewasnicak had 12 digs and Kurstan Martin added 11 while Hannah Voss served up five aces and Marissa Faroni dished out 17 assists. For Sage, freshman Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahcoah Regional) had a team best 14 kills and shot .278, and also added 15 digs with 12 assists. Junior Lidia Loporto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) had a match high 22 digs and sophomore Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford Half Moon) had 15 assists to lead the Gators. Freshman Ani Crocker (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Central) also had 15 digs.
Elmira was led by Taylor Kaznowski's 27 assists and six service aces. Tiara John, who had a .600 attack percentage, led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and three aces along with two blocks. Elmira had a hitting percentage of 333 as a team. Parkington had four kills and junior Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) recorded 11 digs for the Gators.
Sage hosts SUNY Cobelskill Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Kahl Gym.
