Gators score season high in 5-0 win over MCLA

Albany, NY - The Sage Colleges men's soccer team recorded a season high in goals with a 5-0 win over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in non-league men's soccer action Tuesday night at the Albany College of Pharmacy's Athletic Complex. The Gators improved to 3-4-1 while the Trailblazers now stand 0-7-1.

Sophomore Andy Acevedo (Modena, NY/Wallkill) opened the scoring for Sage at 4:16. He took a cross from the left line from sophomore River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood) and his shot inside the right post scored his first of the year. At 25:53, Seybolt notched his third as he broke in through defenders on the right side and came in close for the 2-0 lead.

Sophomore Stephen Spraker (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) gave Sage a 3-0 lead at 33:44. After his throw-in, the ball found its way back to him on the sideline and his long, high shot found its way inside the right post. At 41:58, senior Kevin Contreras Sanchez (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) sent a corner from the left side in front, and it was headed in by freshman Joergen Skagen (Oslo, Norway/Lambertseter Athletic) for his second of the year.

The Gators closed out the first half scoring with 21 seconds remaining. Contreras Sanchez was awarded a penalty kick and he converted for his first of the fall and a 5-0 Gators lead.

Sage had a commanding advantage of 20-6 in shots, and the corners were in favor of the Gators, 3-1. MCLA freshman Aaron Smith (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) made one for the guests in the first half and freshman Holvin Nieves (Leominster, MA/Leominster) made three stops.
