Softball splits with Skidmore on Wednesday

Troy, NY— Sage's softball team hosted the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. Sage took the first game 3-2 and Skidmore picked up a 7-2 win in the nightcap. Sage is now 10-16 and Skidmore stands at 12-14.

Game #1 Sage 3-2 Skidmore

Sage got the game winning hit in the bottom of the sixth innings as senior Lindsey Decker (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) had the game-winning hit as she singled to left field to drive in sophomore Ashley Madigan (Valley Falls, NY/Hoosic Valley) had reached on a one out double to left center.  Decker finished with a 2 for 4 effort at the plate and an RBI to lead Sage to the win.

Sage's sophomore pitcher Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) earned a complete game win as she scattered five hits with two earned runs and five strikeouts. She improves to 5-7 on the year.

Skidmore's senior Karly Fishkin (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) added a solo homerun in the fourth inning to lead the Thoroughbreds, while also driving in both Skidmore runs in the action.

Rookie pitcher Hannah Davis (Stafford, CT/Stafford) worked four inning in the circle for Skidmore, allowing two earned runs off four hits with three strikeouts and three walks before junior Emily Popp (Clinton, CT/The Morgan School) came in and gave up one run off two hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work. She drops to 4-7 o the year.

Game #2 Skidmore 7-2 Sage

Skidmore's rookie Meghan White (Riverside, CA/Martin Luther King) belted two home runs to lead Skidmore to the win. She finished with three RBI's and was 3-4 with two runs scored as she now has a team-leading four homeruns on the season. Davis also went deep I the nightcap for her second home run on the year as Skidmore combined for five extra-base hits.

Sage had three doubles in the game as senior co-captain Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, NY/Taconic Hills), Decker and rookie Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) all added doubles. Duncan continues to add to her active career double mark as she now 47.

Dicranian got the starting role in the circle and worked three inning with five earned runs off seven hits before being replaced by junior Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) who worked four innings with two earned runs off three hits.

Skidmore's  Davis earned the win after four innings of work with five strikeouts and is now 6-4. In relief, junior Emily Popp (Clinton, CT/The Morgan School) got the save after allowing just one run off four hits with two strikeouts.

 

Sage is back in action on April 13 hosting Utica College in a noon Empire 8 doubleheader, while Skidmore return to action on April 14 hosting St. Lawrence University in a Liberty League doubleheader.
