Troy, NY— Sage's men's lacrosse team hosted the Highlanders of Houghton College on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 match held at RPI's Renwyck Field. Sage led 8-3 at the half and held on for a 12-9 win as rookie attacker Matt Fisher (Niskayuna, NY/South Colonie) added seven points on five goals and a pair of assists. With the win, Sage is now 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the league. Houghton falls to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Freshman Eric Fairhurst (Wooster, OH/Wooster) added three goals and two assists, while freshman midfielder David Baraniuk (Budd Lake, NY/Mount Olive) scored twice with an assist. On the season, Baraniuk leads the Gators with his 33 goals and 18 assists for 51 points. Freshman midfielder Robert Martin (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) added four assists and has 31 on the season and is second in points with 46.
Houghton's sophomore Jonathan Mayer (Palm Harbor, FL/Palm Harbor University) added three goals for the Highlanders, while rookie midfielder Nathan Anderson (Rochester, NY/Home schooled) added three goals with an assist.
Sage's freshman keeper Brandon Maresca (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) made 16 saves in earning the win and is now 5-5 on the year. Houghton's sophomore goalie Jeremy Harris (Albany, NY/Guilderland) made 10 saves in the action for the Highlanders.
Sage travels to New Hampshire on Monday night for a 7 p.m. match-up with Northern Vermont University taking place at New Hampton School's Athletic Complex.
