Hoboken, NJ—The Sage Colleges' women's soccer team travelled to New Jersey to face the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology in the Empire 8 opener for both teams. The Ducks collected the 6-2 victory to hand Sage their first loss of the season. With the win, Stevens is now 3-2 and 1-0 in the league, while Sage is now 4-1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8.
Sage struck first as senior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) added her second goal of the season at the 20:29 mark.
Stevens tied the action a minute later as Erica O'Kelly score on a feed from Zisi Komar at 21:45. The Ducks took a 2-1 halftime lead as Gabby Saade scored at 25:38.
Stevens scored four unanswered goals to jump out to a 6-1 lead before Sage's junior Giovanna Fichera (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) scored at the 88:15 mark for her first goal of the season.
For Trimblett, she now has 38 career goals, which ranks third all-time on the Sage career goal list, while she boasts 96 career points (38g, 20a) and is also third in career points.
Sage's rookie goalies Mickaela Buzzy (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Natalie Tidings (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) shared in the contest. Buzzy had eight saves with six goals allowed in 80 plus minutes of work, while Tidings added one save.
Sage is back in action on September 18 hosting RPI in a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up at ACP's Field.
