SAGE STUDENT-ATHLETES GARNER NUMEROUS EMPIRE 8 AWARDS

Albany, NY— With the release of the latest Empire 8 Players and Performers of the Week, Sage had a banner week as they had five student-athletes selected in their respective sports. In addition, one student-athelete was also tapped as this week's United Volleyball Conference Men's Co-Player of the Week.

                                                            Empire 8 Players of the Week, March 18 – March 24

Men's Lacrosse

Player – David Baraniuk, Sage (Freshman, Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive)

On the week, Sage went 2-1 and Baraniuk led the Gators with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists. He had a .565 shot percentage on the week. Baraniuk added a game winner and registered seven ground balls on the week.

Goalkeeper – Michael Capitelli, Sage (Freshman, Oceanside, NY/Oceanside)

Capitelli was 1-0 in two appearances last week for the Gators. He had 13 saves with an 8.33 GAA in 65 minutes of work. He got the win in Sage's come from behind 18-12 road win over Wells.

Softball

Pitcher – Katerina Lagace, Sage (Sophomore, Newington, CT/Newington)

Lagace collected a complete game win as she struck out seven in Sage's 3-1 win over Westfield State this past week in her only appearance. She allowed just three hits and no earned runs with just one walk in the effort. Lagce held WSU to a .120 batting average in the game.

Outdoor Track & Field

Women's Track Athlete – Kerry Flower, Sage (Freshman, Schenectady, NY/Schalmont)

In the 5,000 meter run at the Wesleyan University Classic, Flower used the success of having earned Empire 8 Second Team All-Star acclaim in cross country to take third place in her first race with the track team. She posted a time of 19:02.96 to set the school record. She bettered the time set in 2018 by her team mate Sagan Leggett a year ago (20:27.12).

Men's Volleyball

Co-Player – Mike Basile, Sage (Sophomore, Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam)

Basile helped lead Sage to a 2-0 week by leading the team with his 31.5 points and 30 kills over the two matches. He had a .356 attack percentage to go with 15 digs. Basile averaged 3.75 kills/set and 1.88 digs/set on the week. Basile was also chosen as this week's UVC Men's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week.
