New Rochelle, NY— Sage's softball team travelled to the College of New Rochelle on Friday for a pair of non-conference games. Sage took game one, 3-2, while the Angels picked up the victory in the nightcap, 7-5. Sage is now 11-21 on the year.
Game #1 Sage 3-2 College of New Rochelle
Sage jumped out to a 2-0 lead as rookie Alex Henniger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Lindsey Decker (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) had the game winning hit on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Ashley Madigan who reached on a lead-off single in the top of the fifth.
Junior pitcher Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) went the distance in collecting the win as she scattered four hits with four strikeouts and two earned runs and is now 5-2 on the season.
Game #2 College of New Rochelle 7-5 Sage
Junior Amanda Kiriakos (Yonkers, NY/Saunders Trade & Technical) had a home run and drove in two runs in the nightcap, but it was not enough as Sage fell to the Angels, 7-5. Graduate player Lisa Kentris (Latham, NY/Shaker) added a double as well for the Gators.
Sage's rookie pitcher Taylor Dicranian (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) worked 4.1 innings allowing four earned runs off seven hits with three strikeouts. Sophomore Katerina Lagace (Newington, CT/Newington) came in the game and suffered the loss after 1.2 innings of work with two earned runs off three hits with a pair of strikeouts. She drops to 5-10 on the year.
Sage is back in action on April 20 travelling to Stevens Institute of Technology for their final Empire 8 doubleheader with the Ducks at 1 p.m.
