Trimblett sets career assists record in 5-1 win over Elmira

Albany, N.Y. – Senior forward Samantha Trimblett (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) became the all-time career assist for The Sage Colleges as the Gators defeated visiting Elmira College, 5-1 in an Empire 8 conference game at the Albany College of Pharmacy Athletic Facility Saturday night.  The Gators are now 6-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the E8 while the Soaring Eagles are 2-9-1 for the season and 0-4 in league play.

Sage senior goalkeeper Emma Augustine (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) made two saves in 81:09 of action, while senior Meghan Ray (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) had 13 saves in her 78:25 of action while freshman Cassidy Buchman (Lowville, NY/Lowville) made two stops in 11:35. Sage outshot Elmira, 30-5 and had four of the five corners. The five goal total was a game high for the 2018 season.

Trimblett became the third Gator to record 40 career goals when she opened the scoring. She joins Rebecca Marszalek '11 (52) and Kelley Richer '94 (48). The score came on a direct kick at 12:27, as Trimblett scored on a low shot inside the left of the cage. It was the fourth goal of the year for the senior.

Senior forward Joleen Marfone (Remsen, NY/Remsen) made it 2-0 Gators at 38:11. Junior midfielder Maegan Villa (Marlboro, NY/Washingtonville) fed the ball to her left where Marfone's shot found its way inside the left post for her fifth goal of the fall.

Trimblett took over the career assist lead at 62:07 when she fed senior teammate and forward Arianna Logan (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie), who scored her third of the year for a 3-0 lead. Trimblett was tied with Ashley Allain '09 with 22 career assists. The Gators made it 4-0 on the first goal of the year by sophomore midfielder Lydia Malkiewicz (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central). Logan passed to Malkiewicz, who shot from the top of the box, and the ball went off the keeper and in at 63:55. Then, at 75:30, the Gators added to the lead with the fifth of the night. Junior forward Kristen Silk (Freehold, NY/Greenville) broke past a defender after a forward feed from Villa and shot it into the left side for her first of the year.

Elmira ended the shutout bid when sophomore forward Taylor Hanson (Chatham, NY/Chatham) broke in on the left side and came in close, scoring her sixth of the season at 85:50.

Sage hosts SUNY Poly Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at ACP Field. Elmira is at Medaille Tuesday at 5 p.m.
