Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team hosted the Saxons of Alfred University on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 match. Alfred's sophomore Zachary Gloskin (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) scored his first two goals on the season to help lift his team to the conference win. Alfred improves to 5-11 overall and 4-2 in the league, while Sage drops to 4-9-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Empire 8.
The match was scoreless at the break and Gloskin scored his first goal of the season and the match at 54:33 to give the Saxons a 1-0 lead. He would strike again with another goal at 81:11 and give Alfred a 2-0 lead.
Sage had a pair of opportunities in the final few minutes but Alfred's senior keeper Joe Gonzalez (Marion, NY/Marion) came up big and collected the shutout win after turning away six of the shots he faced. He stands at 5-9 on the year.
Sage's senior goalie Michael Chiaravalloti (Torrington, CT/Oliver Wolcott) made seven saves in the contest, elevating his career resume to include 191 career saves, which stands second all-time at Sage.
Sage returns to action on October 23 travelling to Skidmore College for 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
