Albany, NY —The Sage Colleges' Department of Athletics recently honored a number of Sage student-athletes in conjunction with the annual Athletic Award Banquet.  New this year, Sage created a Female and a Male Rookie of the Year, while also handing out Gator of the Year awards in all 17 sports as well as a Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

Honored for her outstanding rookie season as a member of the Sage inaugural field hockey was rookie back Brooke Perry (Hampton, NY/Glenville). In addition to being tapped as the Gator of the Year in field hockey, Perry was also named to the 2018 Empire 8 Field Hockey Sportswomen Team. She also excelled in the classroom at Sage and was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as one of the members of the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Perry played in all 17 matches as well and added two defensive saves with a goal and helped to anchor the defense in 2018.

Sage head field hockey coach Gillian McDonald noted of Perry, "Brooke has been an incredible representative for our first-year program." She continued, "She is the epitome of a team player, she has an excellent work ethic and has been an absolute pleasure to coach. She sets a high standard for herself, while also managing to support her peers on an off the field with a sense of self-confidence and perception. Brooke's maturing, integrity, and coachability make her a superb role model."

The Sage Colleges' field hockey program wrapped the inaugural season with a selection to this year's team for their academic prowess. Under the guidance of head coach Gillian McDonald, Sage had a number of impressive things happen on the season and posted a record of 4-13.  For the season, Sage strung together a two-game win streak, while also finishing with four wins and went to overtime three times as well with opponents.
