In June 2024, Russell Sage College Athletics announced the hiring of Carissa Warren (Harpursville, N.Y.) as its next head field hockey coach. She will officially start on July 1, 2024.
"I am honored and excited to be named the head field hockey coach at Russell Sage College," said Warren. "I want to thank Athletic Director Jim Lyons, Associate Athletic Director Erica Faas-Li and the entire search committee for choosing me to lead the field hockey program. I would also like to thank my former head coach Erin Autera for all the support and guidance she has given me throughout the last five years. From the minute I stepped on campus I knew this was a community I couldn't wait to be a part of. Sage's values and goals for the future align perfectly with my coaching philosophy and core values. I am looking forward to working with some incredible student athletes and taking Russell Sage College Field Hockey to the next level!"
"Russell Sage is proud to announce the addition of Carissa Warren to our Athletics family," added Lyons. "Carissa's passion and energy for developing and leading student-athletes stood out among a strong pool of candidates. Her knowledge of the Empire 8 as well as her experience in recruiting New York State and beyond were top priorities for the search committee. I am certain that Carissa is the right person to continue the progress our field hockey program has made over the last few years, we are thrilled to have her join our staff."
Warren comes to the Capital Region from fellow Empire 8 Conference member Hartwick College, where she has been on the coaching staff since 2019. During her time at 'Wick, including the past fall as the Associate Head Coach, the Hawks captured three E8 Conference Championships, and boasted 33 All-Conference players on their rosters.
"During our five years working together, we went through the COVID pandemic, won three Empire 8 Championships, and gained life-long connections with our student-athletes," said Autera. "Carissa is an extremely talented coach and I look forward to coaching against her in the Empire 8. I know she will do great things as a head coach for Russell Sage and I wish her all the best!"
Warren joined the Hartwick coaching staff following a very successful playing career at SUNY Oneonta. A three-time all-region and four-time All-SUNYAC pick, Warren helped the Red Dragons to 33 victories and four SUNYAC playoff appearances in her four seasons. She registered 42 points on 12 goals and 18 assists across 72 career starts.
Warren graduated from SUNY Oneonta in May 2019 with degrees in Sports Management and Psychology and earned her master of science in Sport Management from SUNY Cortland in May 2021.
