Saratoga Springs, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's and men's cross country teams travelled to the Saratoga State Park to compete in the prestigious RPI Invitational. On the women's side, St. Lawrence won the team title with a score of 54 in a field of 16 teams. The men's race team crown went to RPI with a score of 26 as they had the top two finishers in the race. Sage's women's team took home 14th place with a score of 406, while the Sage men's squad was incomplete.
Sage's women's team had a strong day as a number of performers had their personal-best meet. Rookie runner Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) broke the school record for the 5K race as she was 52nd in a time of 19:27.1. Freshman runner Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) took 82nd place in 20:43.1 followed by senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Forth Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) who was 85th in 20:46.0.
Senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a time of 21:03.8 to take 90th and junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Colombia) ran a time of 21:42.8 and finished as the final scorer in 97th place.
Sophomore Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) posted a performance of 22:07.8 and took 101th place. Sophomore Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) was next for Sage in 105th place as she had a personal-best time of 23:12.5. Rookie Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) added a time of 26:52.8 to round out the field for Sage.
Next up Sage will be back in action on October 6 travelling to the Houghton College Highlander Invitational.
