Chicopee, MA—The Sage Colleges' men's soccer team was in action on Wednesday night at Elms College for a non-conference match with the Blazers. After playing to a scoreless tie at the break, the Gators put in a pair of goals to collect a 2-0 road win on Wednesday night. Sage improves to 1-4-1, while Elms drops to 0-6.
Sophomore forward Jeaneste Pierre (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) added the game's first score at 53:49 on a feed from senior River Seybolt (Selden, NY/Longwood).
In the final minutes of the match, Sage's rookie defender Joergen Skagen (Oslo, Norway) collected his first career goal on a header off the corner fed in by junior midfielder Alberto Cannistraci (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) at 85:28.
Rookie goalie Lucas Bourdeau (Castleton-on-Hudson, NY/Maple Hill) made three saves in earning the win and his first career shutout.
For Seybolt, Sage's all-time leading scorer, he now 93 career points on 41 goals with 11 assists. He is now in fifth with his 11 career assists at Sage.
Sage returns to action on Saturday, September 22, hosting Houghton College at ACP Field in a 4 p.m. match in Empire 8 play. The day is a Sage soccer doubleheader as the Gator women's team hosts Nazareth College at 1 p.m. in conjunction with the Gators' Second Annual Coaches vs. Cancer games. In addition to numerous activities planned for the day, there will be Sage Gator Cups for the first 50 fans in attendance Saturday at both games.
