Basile Named to All-Tournament Team as Gators take two on Saturday at Cougar Clash

Dallas, PA— The Sage Colleges' men's volleyball team wrapped up play on Saturday in the final day of play at the Misericordia Cougar Clash. Sage opened the day with a 3-0 win over Trine University (25-18, 25-23, 25-20). The Gators then faced Elizabethtown College in the final match of the tournament and posted the sweep of their opponents beating the Blue Jays, 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-22). With the pair of wins on Saturday, Sage is now 4-3.

Sage's sophomore co-captain Mike Basile (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) earned a selection to the all-tournament team for his play.

Against Trine, Sage's junior middle hitter Scott Sanders (Los Angeles, CA/Taft) picked up 10 kills with an impressive .533 attack percentage. He added four block assists with a team-leading 12.0 points in the action. Senior co-captain Zackery Karl (West Monroe, NY/Central Square) contributed to the victory with six kills, an ace and three digs.

Basile added six kills with four digs and a pair of block assists. Junior outside hitter Shane Wenz (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) added five kills with four digs and a pair of block assists.

Sophomore setter Ryan Jennings (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Township) led the Gators with 25 setting assists, while racking up two aces, two digs and a kill as Sage combined for a .237 attack percentage, while limiting Trine to a 0.025 attack percentage.  

Against Elizabethtown, both Wenz and Basile collected eight kills apiece, while Basile added eight digs with two block assists. Wenz added five digs for the Gators.  Junior Jarod Martel (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had six kills with a dig, while Sanders picked up five kills and four digs with three block assists. Karl added six digs with two aces and three kills.  Jennings added 16 setting assists with three digs for Sage.
