Gators fall to Houghton in Empire 8 play

Albany, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team hosted the Highlanders of Houghton College in Friday afternoon in an Empire 8 match-up. Houghton posted the 23-9 win over Sage to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the league, while the loss puts the Gators at 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Houghton's junior midfielder Cori Beck (Monkton, MD/Hereford) led the Highlanders with her six goals and two assists elevating her season totals to 31 goals and 15 assists. Senior attacker Meagan Barry (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) added seven points on six goals with an assist and now has 29 goals with seven assists. Junior Marissa Hews (Norwood, PA/Interboro) also tallied six goals for Houghton as they led 14-7 at the break.

Sage got a strong performance from junior Anne Risler (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) as she had five points on four goals with an assist. Risler leads the Gators with her 29 points on 27 goals and two assists.

Sophomore Alex Franco (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added three goals and an assist, while sophomore Sophia Pierce (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) picked up two goals for the match.

Junior Brittany Gage (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) continues her climb on the Gator career records as she moved to the No. 2 spot on Friday with four draw controls and now has 108. She is also now third with her 17 career assists, while also standing fourth with her 91 ground ball pickups. Risler stands No. 6 in both points (63) and goals (54), while also ranking 10th in career assists with nine. Franco is now seventh with her 11 career assists after Friday's efforts.

Starting goalkeeper Marina Azab (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) made seven saves in 30 minutes of work with 14 goals allowed. Sophomore Carly Plaisance (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) stopped seven shots with 9 goals allowed in 30 minutes of service.

Houghton's junior Sarah Olandt (Ocean View, NY/Ocean City) earned the win with her 5 saves and 9 goals allowed in 51 minutes of work. Senior Meghan Rearick (Sinclairville, NY/Cassadaga Valley) also worked for the Highlanders.

Sage is home again on Monday, April 15 hosting the College of Mt. St. Vincent in a non-conference match at ACP Field at 7 p.m.
